good-bye 2009
What a very original title…I must have seen it 20 times already on different blogs or FB post…. and it still seems pretty odd to me- to be saying good-bye to a whole nother year! 2009 is coming to a close..wait- what- really…. I guess I just let that one slip up on me….I vividly remember 2000 being here and thinking that we would all “blow up” or something- and yet here we are about to say hello to 2010. I noticed that a few of my blogging friends were listing things about their 2009 some good. some bad. some surprising and some completely interesting. I certainly had a very blessed 2009 and I am so grateful for that— but I must say I am not compeletely sad this year to starting anew. My dad always quoted this famous poem for us either via first Sunday Sermon of the new year- or at our “end of the year church singing” and I thought I might honor him a bit by passing it on to some others (most of you have heard it):
He came to my desk with quivering lip –
The lesson was done.
“Dear Teacher. I want a new leaf he said,
“I have spoiled this one.”
I took the old leaf, stained and blotted
And gave him a new one, all unspotted,
And into his sad eyes smiled;
“Do better now, my child!”
I went to the Throne with a quivering soul –
The old year was gone.
“Dear Father, hast Thou a new leaf for me?”
“I have spoiled this one.”
He took the old leaf, stained and blotted
And into my sad heart smiled:
“Do better now, my child!”
It is a true blessing that we are allowed to start anew..making our lives better each year…each day…by just working towards growing as Christ like individuals. I am so thankful for the ability to begin again. So good-bye 2009…..Lord willing- 2010 will be a year in which I grow closer to God and work harder to do His will.
